When
the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) changed it's position on the law of Moses in
1994, and subsequently their view on the compulsory nature of
seventh-day observance, those who disagreed left and formed other
organizations which carried on the old covenant traditions. Those,
however, who agreed with the new covenant changes, stayed with
Worldwide, thinking that they could continue to observe the sabbath and
other annual festivals for reasons that were instructive rather than
compulsory. However, that freedom slowly changed for them, too.
Sabbath observance, even of a new covenant voluntary type, became
frowned upon within the new WCG. This, together with the
discarding or de-emphasis of other major beliefs, led many who had
stayed to finally leave. It is those truly new covenant scattered
sabbatarian brethren to whom I am now writing. The ones caught in
the middle between the misguided teachings of the Judaizers on the one
hand, and the orthodox churches on the other.
I have found us a new home at the Church of God, Abrahamic Faith,
headquartered just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. They are a small
group of honest, sincere, and open folks who humbly seek the truth from
the word of God. You would be familiar with their core teachings
of soul sleep, the good news of the restoration of the Kingdom of God on
earth at Christ's return, and non-trinitarianism. You would not be
familiar with their church organizational structure. The Church of
God General Conference consists of autonomous local churches coming
together to support evangelism, teaching, and a small college. One
of the leading teachers within the General Conference is biblical
scholar and author, Sir Anthony Buzzard. He was an early minister
in the WCG but left decades ago upon the realization of flaws in
doctrine and teaching.
If you are someone who wants to continue worshipping on the seventh day
strictly out of tradition or personal preference, you certainly are free
under the New Covenant to do so. Acts 15 is the basis for
declaring that the day itself is no longer a stipulation to fellowship
in the Church of God. However, I invite you to consider
fellowshipping with the brethren of the churches of God, Abrahamic
Faith. There you will find like-minded believers and worshippers
of the one true God, the Father, and His Son Jesus. Most of them gather
for worship on Sunday mornings.
There
is only one God, the Father, and one lord Jesus Christ, His Son, who
came fully human and filled with the Spirit of God. He now sits at
the right hand of that one God, awaiting the Father's direction to usher
in the new age here on earth. The doctrines of the trinity or even
binity of God, not only distract from that life-giving gospel of Jesus,
but also pervert belief in and worship of the one true God.
"There is one God, the Father, and one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus." (1 Tim. 2:5) "And this is
eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus
Christ whom you have sent." (Jo. 17:3) It doesn't get any
simpler than that.
Take care and I hope to see you soon!
