What is "Abrahamic Faith"

While it is our hope that church leaders would seriously re-examine long held beliefs concerning God the Father, and His son Jesus, we know that most will likely not do so.  Almost two millennia of church tradition will prove to be too big an obstacle for real change back to the original teachings of the New Testament Church on these subjects. Subsequently, a few of us are starting a fellowship in the Olympia, Washington area, so that those who come to the see the light of the gospel more clearly will have a place to share and grow in their faith.

We also know that there are those who have never really been a part of any fellowship because they just can’t get real excited about some of the historically bizarre teachings that have been handed down?  If you are one of those….join the club!  You’re in good company because neither would Abraham be excited about them, and the Bible calls him the father of the faithful. Even more amazing—these things were not taught by Jesus either!

Most people would be shocked to learn that so much of what is taught as “Christian”, does not come from the Bible, but was added from Greek philosophy centuries after the death of Jesus and his apostles.

For example, perhaps you’ve wondered about these ideas:

• The Trinity: Rather than the one, single God that Abraham and Jesus believed in, millions believe in a "mysterious" three-person godhead.

• Immortal Soul: Rather than God granting immortality at the end of this present age when Jesus returns to wake those who are sleeping in their graves, millions believe that we were already born with immortal souls that go immediately to heaven or hell at death.

• Reward of heaven: Rather than the coming age here on earth where the Bible says Jesus will reign from Jerusalem, millions believe that they will be perpetually singing hymns, polishing rainbows, staring into the face of God, and perhaps floating on clouds in another dimension.

• Everlasting and conscious punishment in hell: Rather than a fair, just, and merciful God who simply ends the consciousness of those who refuse to accept Him, millions believe that these individuals will be tortured and be in indescribable misery for ever and ever.

• Predestination: Rather than a God who says he wants all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth, millions believe that God only preplanned to save just a comparably few; and consigned the rest ahead of time to an eternity in hell.

• Infant Baptism: Rather than a God who loves children as shown by the example of Jesus in the Bible, millions believe that if an infant dies before being baptized, he or she may never be accepted in the presence of God.

The above are just a few of the odd beliefs men have invented in the name of Christ.  None of them are supported by a plain reading of the bible.

Abrahamic Faith churches believe in none of these things.  They are among a small group of those through the centuries who have kept the faith simple, just as Jesus himself did.  He is the son of the one God, and is coming back to usher in a new age of peace. God raised him from the dead to do this very thing, and to begin healing us even now through his message. That’s the good news!  If you do not have a congregation home in which you find those of like faith, we invite you into our yet small family to worship and celebrate the one God, our Father, and his human son, Jesus the Messiah (Christ). The glory of God is, and will be, man fully alive.
